Katherine & Jay Wolf are communicators and advocates. After meeting in college, they married and moved to Los Angeles to pursue careers in law and the entertainment industry. Their son James was born in 2007, and six months later Katherine’s life nearly ended with a catastrophic stroke. Miraculously, she survived and continues her recovery to this day, including having a miracle baby, John, in 2015. Katherine and Jay have shared their journey of steadfast hope through their first book, Hope Heals, and at speaking events both live and online before millions. Together, they founded Hope Heals Camp, a community for families with disabilities like them. Katherine, Jay, and their two sons now live in the Atlanta area. His work with 99 Balloons has allowed him to be a proponent of inclusive education as well as church inclusion throughout Haiti, Ukraine, Uganda, India and more.

Jolene Philo is both parent and daughter of loved ones with special needs and disabilities, as well as a former educator who worked with children for 25 years. She’s written several books about caregiving, special needs parenting, and childhood PTSD, including the recently released Sharing Love Abundantly with Special Needs Families: The 5 Love Languages® for Parents Raising Children with Disabilities, which she co-authored with Dr. Gary Chapman. She speaks internationally about caregiving and parenting children with special needs and blogs at www.DifferentDream.com Jolene and her husband live in central Iowa.

 Sandra Peoples, M Div, is the author of Unexpected Blessings: The Joys and Possibilities of Life in a Special-Needs Family. She is a leading voice in the disability community as an encourager to special-needs parents. She has been a member of a special-needs family since the day she was born. Her older sister has Down syndrome, and in 2010 her son James was diagnosed with autism. She is the executive editor for Key Ministry and Not Alone (on Patheos). Angela Imhoff is the Ministry Leader for Celebrate Recovery at New Heights Church. She received her Master’s degree from JBU in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Certified Life Coach. Angela is a speaker and encourager who strives toward helping others live emotionally healthier lives. She and her husband, Chad live with their daughter in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Stephen “Doc” Hunsley, M.D. is the Executive Director and founder of SOAR Special Needs in Overland Park, Kansas. SOAR (Special Opportunities, Abilities, and Relationships) serves over 900 individuals with special needs through regular respite events and a Special Needs Day Camp.  Doc is currently assisting over 320 churches locally, nationally, and globally in starting a Special Needs Ministry. Doc also organizes the Wonderfully Made Conference held annually every October in Kansas City. Doc is a retired pediatrician while his wife, Kay, continues practicing pediatrics. They are proud parents to three beautiful children: Luke, Mark and Sarah. The Hunsley’s middle child, Mark, is presently running the halls of heaven. During Mark’s five-year earthly stay, he gave his family the opportunity to learn from and love a child with autism. Joel A. Dillon is the President & CEO of Jill’s House, a nonprofit ministry dedicated to loving and serving families raising children with intellectual disabilities. Previously, he served as Associate VP of Development for Trinity International University/Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. His experience caring for “at-risk” children at Mercy Home for Boys & Girls in Chicago, IL and living alongside adults with intellectual disabilities in a L’Arche community in Germany has deepened his commitment and passion for the mission and work of Jill’s House. Joel is a graduate of Wheaton College. He lives in the Washington, D.C. metro area with his wife, Hannah, and their two children, Lucy and Jonah.

Dr. Ben Rhodes is the Director of Academic Engagement in the Christian Institute on Disability at the Joni and Friends International Disability Center.  He and his wife Katie enjoy traveling to new places, great books, and good food.  Katie works with survivors of human trafficking, and they are both committed to faith-based partnerships with vulnerable populations.  Dr. Rhodes holds a PhD in systematic theology from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and is passionate about the transformational effect of theology in the daily practice of Christian life.

Bio

Amy Kendall is the Disabilities Minister for almost thirteen years at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA. Before working at Saddleback, she worked for 10 years in the educational sector as a behavior specialist, specializing with children on the autism spectrum. Amy graduated from Pacific Christian College with her BA in Ministry and from Hope International University with her MA in Marriage, Family, Child Counseling. Amy also has a teenage son with multiple disabilities and believes that she is a better minister because she got the blessing to be his mom.
Joi McGowan

Bio

Joi McGowan is Chicago born and a recent Arkansas resident. Ever since she was young  she knew she wanted to be either a lawyer or a therapist. She chose therapy because she believed she could make the most impact. She has personal experiences that have compelled her to work in the counseling field to help others process their trauma and pain. In her experience she has found the words of Dr. Bruce Perry to ring true time and time again: “Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love”, Bruce D. Perry, The Boy Who Was Raised As a Dog: And Other Stories from a Child Psychiatrist’s Notebook.  She believes that if it had not been for her faith, family, friends, and her own therapists she would not have been able to engage in the healing process from her own  past. She is a passionate and creative speaker who has spoken in a variety of settings from women retreats, youth retreats, to community health awareness events and professional development training’s. She is excited to share at the Engage Conference to help shed light on trauma, mental health, and healing.

Susan Pannell has served at Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Alabama as the Director of their Special Needs Ministry for over 5 years.  During her tenure, she has developed programs that include a Sunday experience for children, teenagers, and adults to experience Jesus.  Additionally, Susan has shared with other churches how to start and sustain a special needs ministry by speaking at conferences across the U.S.  Susan has been married to her husband, Mark, for 14 years and they have a 12 year old son, Ben. Susan enjoys spending time with her family, nature, and traveling.
