Licensed Associate Counselor
Joi McGowan is Chicago born and a recent Arkansas resident. Ever since she was young she knew she wanted to be either a lawyer or a therapist. She chose therapy because she believed she could make the most impact. She has personal experiences that have compelled her to work in the counseling field to help others process their trauma and pain. In her experience she has found the words of Dr. Bruce Perry to ring true time and time again: “Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love”, Bruce D. Perry, The Boy Who Was Raised As a Dog: And Other Stories from a Child Psychiatrist’s Notebook. She believes that if it had not been for her faith, family, friends, and her own therapists she would not have been able to engage in the healing process from her own past. She is a passionate and creative speaker who has spoken in a variety of settings from women retreats, youth retreats, to community health awareness events and professional development training’s. She is excited to share at the Engage Conference to help shed light on trauma, mental health, and healing.
